Autumn and your skin
Its my favourite time of the year! The time of year where the nights grow dark, the outside gets colder and we crank up the heating to compensate! We swap out our light summer clothing for snuggly and super cosy jumpers, moving into the season with a complete wardrobe change wrapped up in our wooly’s to battle the cold, so why don’t we pay the same attention to our skin? Switching that bikini for a bobble hat is an unquestionable change that needs to happen with the first falling leaf, but for most of us our skincare remains the same.

If your skin is oily, and has always been oily you may think that your current skincare products are right for you, that you don’t need to change with the seasons, here’s a little on why you do, I’m not saying you need a completely different skincare routine per season but swapping out some of your products for something a little more weather friendly will protect your skin through these very drying and chilly months.
What’s the weather got to do with my skin anyway?
As the seasons change from the warm summer months to colder and dryer airs your skin has to try adapting. During the summer when its very humid and warm there is a lot more moisture in the air so your lighter or normal moisturiser will have been enough, as the cold sets in the air becomes less humid and dryer, this effects the hydration levels of your skin so that moisturiser you were using which may have been perfect in the summer time, might be feeling a little too light?
If you find yourself needing to apply more than you were a few months prior it could be time for a change, or if your skin is feeling tight even after applying your products this could signal that your skin is dehydrated and needs a more hydrating moisturiser, a hydrating booster or serum, its not just the loss of humidity and dryer air that effects the skin, its the cold temperature too this also has a big impact on our skin, drying it out and in some people causing sensitivity.
If your using the best moisturiser for your skin you should only need to apply a small amount, if you find yourself slathering it on only to feel like its gone five minutes later, this could indicate that you need something a little heavier for the coming months, even though it sounds pricey to have a different set of products from one season to the next, if your having to apply double or even triple the amount of product then your going to save far more money swapping to a better suited product than you were whilst steaming through a bottle of cream a month!

So what’s best for me?
It depends, if your truly an oily type skin, its likely that it is going to be oily all through the year, although that doesn’t mean that its not dehydrated too, adding a hydrating booster to your routine or a more hydrating oil free moisturiser could be the answer for you.
If your skin is sensitive, you may want to add a layer of protection for the hard stresses of the season, If your skin is dry then moving on up the the next weight moisturiser might be helpful.
If your struggling with this then booking an appointment for a free skincare consultation and discussing your concerns is most definatly recommended, prevention is better than cure after all! Getting the right products onto your skin as and when you need them could save you a lot of money on advanced skincare treatments in the long run!
